I'm not sure I catch your meaning. Are you referring to the number which is simply a definition? (That'd be the number 1, of course.) |

Today was lovely, and I actually spent the afternoon with somebody! This is also rare.
today I should begin studying for an exam, but I think we're going to watch a movie instead. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

I was refering to the logical quantifier.
Although it's a kind of weird way of writting it your sequent reads to me as 'all things 'a' that have the property of 'x' are self indentical.' Kind of hard to imagine a property you'd want to make that claim about really so I don't think it's what it actually means, (my money's on some strange sciencey thing instead,) but it's what it would mean as a formal logic sequent - well allowing for gramatical differences of course. _________________ Never forget,

No, I meant it like you're reading it, only a bit different. I basically meant "The number x for which for all as the equation ax = a will hold", which is the definition of the number 1.
I realize that I didn't at any point specify that x is the number I'm talking about, but I figured it was understandable. (I would have understood it...) |

Okay, so do all of those things mean the numbers on the clock, or are they just random physicsy things? _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

| They mean the numbers on the clock. And there's no physics here, just math... |

Today I am still jetlagged from Ireland. I will admit the wedding was lovely. Eamon and Maev are gorgeous together. I love them to bits. I looked wretched of course. And I ripped the dress in a riding contest on those shaggy connemara ponies. <3
Today was rainy and grey.
Today I am SO glad I don't live in the valley next door - it's flooded. We're high and dry.
Today everyone is miserable and weary miasma hangs over everything.
Today there are SERIOUS storms coming in over the mountains. _________________ Fall down seven times, get up eight. --Japanese Proverb

Today I am not a banana.
Today I woke up at 5 am, and I feel kind of rested. . . (Go Eli for getting your allotted like 6 hours of sleep =o)
Today I realize that someone with some talent can make something you hate into something you love.
Today I feel as if I spend too much time on the computer and yet it's never enough.
This weekend it RAINED a LOT and this makes Me very very very happy. (And yes I did proceed to roll up my pant legs, and go out in the rain in my T-shirt.) _________________ They died x_x I'm a bad father ;-;

Can't you plug zero in there as well
0*0=0
Today I've been to sleep, during the night time, kinda - what the heck?
Today I intend to buy milk and flour and some more mincemeat from Asda, something green as well. I shall try cooking a proper meal rather than my usual approach of frying things or just having sandwiches all day!
Today I intend to write up a character for the Earthsong RPG.
Today I intend to catch up on two weeks worth of readings I've missed in all three of my subjects!
Today I intend to be crazy organised, but am probably just going to argue with people on YouTube and eat sandwiches again. _________________ Never forget,

But then it's not for any a, only for a=0. Because 3*0 != 3. |

Today I didn't even bother trying to read all the maths stuff Nem and Tam were talking about.
Today I'm wondering if I should buy my mum an iphone.
Today I'm going to write my essay...soon...yes...in a few minutes...one more episode of scrubs... _________________ Britland as dubbed by AsA

@ BritT: If she's anything like either of mine, under no cicumstances. Either she'll be all savvy and wow and bug you 24-7 or she'll be utterly incompetent and bug you about how to work it OVER AND OVER AND OVER.
