I wasn't really going for a 1:1 spider likeness ratio here with Spinster - he has a few spider inspired elements, such as the eight eyes and eight limbs, but he's his own character.
No particular myth here, though certainly there is a trend of giant spiders showing up in stories - LotR, Harry Potter, for example. Not all of the returnees from Earthsong would have viewed their experience there in the context of beliefs/religion.
Cute, eh? Can't say I was going for cute, but I'll take it! _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

Well, we can always pretend his species was inspiration for things like shiva, or other sixhanded mythical characters I'm certain there was at least one in greek (and thus roman) mythology, and there must be others... _________________ mister as dubbed by AsA

Ooh... So is his soul stone power telepathy, or something to do with weaving?

Spinster is getting more adorable with each page. At this point, I'm already thinking that all those arms probably make for nice hugs.
And I love the multi-wink! |

Man, he could give some serious puppy dog eyes if he put his mind to it. If anyone ever wanted to do a crack!fanart, it would be Spinster begging for something.
Actually, he's sort of reminding me of India, and it's not the six arms. I haven't decided why, yet. I like the gold earring, though. ^_^ _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

Yes! Just think: one pair of arms is raised high and wide in a prayer-type pose, another is just joined about chest level, and another is used as chin support. And of course all the sparkling, big begging eyes.
Deadly. This guy can have whatever he wants! Maybe that's how he managed to stay without picking a side... the clothes were the rationalization, what really did it was the puppy dog eyes.
Which begs the question... why was he so keen on staying? Does he have a Tristram-like story? Or are his talents not appreciated where he's from? What could his remnant be to make him want to stay on a war-thorn World, away from the rest of his people, despite his not being interested in fighting on either side of the conflict?
And yes, I know Crystal doesn't answer questions. I just like guessing and theorizing in a group.

You know what, I don't actually find him cute at all. Too sharp and pointy. And also, he's been in a grand total of two pages, maybe three. That's too soon for me to declare him my Squishy. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

Hm, having eight eyes really changes how winks work, doesn't it? Now I'm imagining different kinds of winks... Like winking only your top eyes. o_0

I could really see Wink Dancing being a thing for his people...
"Welcome back! Before the break, our first competitor really raised the bar with a completely original 5-3 inversion on a 4-4 tempo, complete with immediate mirror. That was something else, wasn't it, Web?"
"It sure was, Silk. Even professional performers have a better side, but he pulled off this very complicated combo on both sides just as well. I just hope he didn't spring any eyelid. Remember that young girl last year? Quintuple Eye Cramp... the poor thing couldn't do her next number."
"Yes, that was a shame. Ah! Our next competitor is ready."
"He just got that tattoo on his lower right last month."
"Did he? And that can be tender for a while, can't it? I hope it doesn't affect his performance."
"Well, he's always one for taking risks. Remember that saucy number two years ago? He couldn't have been more indecent showing his mouth."
I'll stop here before I find myself typing that nonsense until dinner time. |

Is it really, truly a wink if it's more than one eye? Would two eyes still be a blink? And would three eyes be a TRINK, or four eyes be a QUINK??? _________________ Keeper of Zaebos' and Jormand's powers.
