If your program have color decrease option, or option that offers to decrease pixels in the image. Resizing is another way to reduce the file size. Also, the more color a image have, the bigger the file will be (it also wont look great when its resized or have it density or pixels changed).
Does that help? I have Paintshop, so I dont know if those things can be found in simpler programs.

i'd recommend that you follow this LINK and look for Tinalles' explination of 3 methods to create small avatars. and there's further discussion on the second page.
I highly recommend making an indexed PNG, that's what my avy is. Also if you have an image in mind, but don't have the program power to play with the quality, you could do as Tam said and ask someone to make it from a pic you have. I'd also be more then willing to shrink something into an avy for you.
ps often times it's useful to run a search on a question you have, especially if it's a universal type problem as the liklihood is high that it's been answered somewhere already.

I figured it was about time for me to figure out some sort of avy, and on figuring it for a second I figured that a good way to show off my awesomeness, coolness, attractiveness, smartness etc, would be with a pic of...Ness, whose name lends itself to a lot of unclever puns, and who I play a lot of in Smash Bros games (and rock with).
I might need to recolor the pic some time in the near future though. The green hat version is essential... |
