O_O... CGI in place of face makeup? That's a little ridonkulous if you ask me.
And I don't mean that Nan has to be UGLY. She just can't be some pristine little (pardon the horrible quasi-pun) china doll is all. Rav - link me up some pictures of these actresses you keep suggesting. I don't know any of them! _________________ Keeper of Nanashi's Vambraces and the Amethyst Trees.

Well I still think Kristanna Loken as Gwen would be awesome. She just has those really intense eyes, you know? _________________ Just because I like scary things doesn't mean I'M- okay, it kinda does sometimes.

As Chinese people go though, Yeoh is pretty Japanese looking, at least. Besides, only the Japanese really complained about Ziyi Zhang in Memoirs of a Geisha. :p
I'm not really overly familiar with Japanese actors, though. There's a Korean actress I can think of who might fit the bill, but I can't recall her name or the movie she was in. _________________ Dubbed Pants by AsA, via the way of the electric pants. |

Now, back in Squee's day, actors wore makeup so ya could actually see their eyes! Then those talkies came around ya youngins be so infatiated with, and then all the makeup is put so ya can't see head from tail! Ya be ruinin' da art! |

No I understand what you mean - you don't want a parade of kira kira princesses, which I completely get. I'll try and track down some images this evening, once I get back from uni today. _________________ Bernard [about the job]: The pay's not great, but the work is hard.

My friend's dad worked as a CGIer on the movie Australia and was cursing at the producers/wardrobe department because they decided to put Kidman in a blue top, and he had to go back and erase all the sweat marks that one is liable and create in a desert :p _________________ Dubbed Pants by AsA, via the way of the electric pants. |

Hmm...
All that talk about Nanashi gave me an idea, but she's got two big disadvantages:
1) She's a singer, not an actress.
2) She's Korean, not Japanese.
Anyway, I present Ji-In Cho:

I always picture Nan with strong features, striking rather than pretty. No suggestions for actresses though, I'm useless when it comes to that! _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

And Kou Shibasaki as Nanashi...

Yes! She can be really intense (as seen in Battle Royale) and she has proved with her recent work that she can do subtle, layered acting as well (although she did seem a bit too delicate in The Sinking of Japan, poor direction maybe?)

Ah the wonders of grit. I can see the Lady being the kind of casting director who goes "okay, now let's see what you look like in mud..." rather than looking at head shots and auditions tapes.
May I suggest Patrick Stewart for Beluosus? Not sure why, but I feel that the insidious bad guy needs to have a little bit of charm as well. _________________ Lithrath=Lisa according to Asa, though I respond to Lithy as well

Patrick Stewart is getting on in years, but he's played a few villains impeccably well over the years. Mind you, I can't remember any of them off top of my head.
The only problem with Stewart would be all the people who would instantly associate him with Star Trek. At least it would generate hype for the movie? O_o _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

Remember that the Planets will be mostly if not totally CGI, so you can have his voice but not the face. Would that limit the the type-casting?
Not that I knew he was in StarTrek til you said... _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^
