My point exactly, Virt. People are getting too worked up over it, too early. Like, would you declare #4 the winner of the race when they haven't even entered the first turn yet? No. So let's see what develops before we declare ourselves 'with company'. ^_~ _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

You kidding? We know comparitively nothing about anything. That's why science is so exciting! |
I know - I've just met a lot of people who act like they have the answers to everything and that all science - even theoretical - is absolute fact. I don't like these people.

I'm pulling for fly on the antenna.
The ironic thing about life on distant stars is that radio transmissions (and even light transmissions) will take so long to reach us that we'll never actually have hope of meeting them. That is, unless they develop FTL (Faster Than Light) travel, and arrive shortly after the signal.
Just imagine, we finally get a radio transmission from a sentient race that seems just about as far along as we are. Everyone gets excited, and then a massive ship pops out of nowhere into the solar system. Only one word is said: "Yo."

They could make a pretty cool tv show about slower than light space travel. It would be like Twilight Zone, with a different cast and a different story each week, separated by thousands of years and tens of generations of interstellar travel.
They dread the day when they arrive at a star system and find humans there waiting for them... _________________ I love children...but I could never eat a whole one.

I'm just all to pleased with the father ted reference in the intro post to this thread. I never get to talk to anyone about father ted, no one has seen it.

I'm agreeing with Asa and Vert, and Brit is a Fusby because she totally stole my line. Although I think the mic is in space so it would have to be a space fly. _________________ Dubbed Pants by AsA, via the way of the electric pants. |

My pretty horse running through the ... fields.
On topic: I'm not really knowledgeable enough about space and physics to give an opinion (you want my brother for that), but I'd love to find that it was something cool, like colliding galaxies (cool from a scientific point of view, not personal. Poor galaxy minding it's own business then BANG...). This stuff is always exciting, even if it does turn out to be a space fly on the antenna, because then they'll make a new antenna which is impervious to space flies and might pick up something worth hearing. Uh... you seem to have missed out the part where a space fly would be an XT, and therefore of extreme interest and possibly even excitement. Unless you're one of those people who finds biology (even if it is xenobiology) boring. _________________ You can't look dignified when you're having fun.

Oh, no. I love biology. But I have to say I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek about the space fly. I'm prepared to admit that this is, in all likelihood, a glitch or something equally mundane. _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.
