AsA brought up a good point, so I bumped the due date back. Simple misunderstanding on my part, ya'll have until Aug 11th now.
Happy Writing! Any questions, feel free to ask! _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

Wait. Are we supposed to be writing about Symbiosis AND unity, or sybiosis OR unity? _________________ Hoffman icon courtesy of my very good friend, Isaymakebelieve, on LJ, check her out! http://community.livejournal.com/isaymakebelieve/

Well, originally, I wanted them to be grouped together. Something about how, through symbiosis, two things unite to become a stronger whole. _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

...ummmm... Yeah. I'm going to say yes. I mean, you have to post it publicly so that everybody in the group can read it. I figure that means it should conform. If I were just me judging it or something, I would definitely say go ahead. You should see some of the people I know locally, they would make a sailor blush!
But, er, yes. Forum rules apply and all that. _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

I'll probably take the route of "So-and-so swore under his breath." A line or two of naration and I can explain that the characters try to watch their language around a certain impressionable person; a "Not around the kid"-type thing. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

What's the standard as far as blood and violence? I got a nice post-apocalyptic thing going- with the guns and the zombies and the little children and the friendly vampires. I'm not gonna go out of my way to be graphic, but I still want to make it scary. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

I think it would be safe to go with "PG-13" as a rating. Or, as you put it, "not around the kid."
Just, yaknow, be a little light on the gore. I have a tendency to over-gore things myself when I write, but when I edit for the forum here I normally just...cut the gore out entirely. Instead of explaining what happens when, say, the guy gets cut by the katana, he just gets cut. The reader then, naturally, fills in the blanks since no information is provided.
...Er, I've taken a few writing and film classes. There's a term for it, but I forget, but it's basically omitting a part so that the audience thinks they saw it, because they know it should be there. Only purists tend to get annoyed by that sort of thing, so it works well for general audiences. Then, maybe we're all purists and that's why we're doing this? I dunno, up to you, that's my advice tho! ^_^ _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

Given the Lady's ratings for the comic itself, I'd say that anything that goes beyond Lord of the Rings level violence is definitely a bit much, so if you feel it necessary to write a story more violent than that, I would suggest putting up a link to elsewhere along with a warning.
Implication is okay, (I think that's what Tenshi is talking about) but be careful how much you imply. _________________ Bernard [about the job]: The pay's not great, but the work is hard.

Here's a description of what I wanted to do. I'd write it mostly through smells and vague hints:
The human survivors kill a dead zombie and hang it in a bathroom to drain it's blood. The vampire (who's helping the humans) collects the blood, freezes the body, and chucks it out a window. The vampire spends the rest of the story drinking Pepsi that's mixed with the blood.
If that's too much, I could try to tone it down, but that's the only gory scene. _________________ ...In accordance with the prophesy.

I had another thought. Back on AOL, when I played in the ongoing RPG world there, a lot of people would do "thesaurus playing". While annoying, it tended not to offend younger minds because, well, they didn't know what you just said. Instead of, say, "blood" you could have "vitae". Get as eloquently verbose as you can, and confound the reader with thesaurus... this may present the problem of confounding the judges in the competition also.
Oh, bother.
Or you could always just put the really gory scenes in [GORE WARNING] tags and turn the text color so it must be highlighted..? You'd have to get final say from a mod, but that seems like pretty solid censorship to me. Rav? _________________ . Dubbed "Usagi" by AsA .

While I do think it's an interesting concept and I would like to see the story, it's not forum appropriate, so if you need to censor it with the Invisible text doo-hickey, then I would suggest finding a new plot bunny I'm afraid. _________________ Bernard [about the job]: The pay's not great, but the work is hard.
