Yes, politics and elections are disheartening... I do my best to vote for the lesser of the evils, which I think is better than not voting because then I'd be getting the average evil.
Today I try to decide where to live. |

Yesterday I had a lovely 2 hour phone conversation with a friend I hadn't talked to in about 15 years.
Today I slept late, and this evening I'm going to a Pathfinder game. Mwa ha! _________________ Keeper of The Remnant Minuon (cognomen Lucy, the Eaten One) and the Emissary Caeli |

Yeah, elections. I've got two to vote in come the end of the year. And I never liked them in the first place. However, I DO think that people who have the ability to vote should do so, because I believe that people should take at least some part in their own governance. My true opinion is actually phrased in the negative: If a person doesn't vote, he loses the right to complain afterward. If a person doesn't want to vote, that's up to him, but then he should complain about the government he's left with after the election - since he didn't help determine that government.
Had a very nice Shabbos this week, stayed within a two block radius of my apartment to baby my knee. Big gathering in the park to see out the Sabbath, which was really nice as well. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

It was a local election though and I find that candidates are much better at keeping promises made in local elections, if only because they are local and everybody knows where the candidates live.
Remember that post I made last week about horse riding and how I nearly fell off?
Well today I did fall off, in a similar situation but last week I had the good sense to slow to a walk when I lost my stirrups, this week I didn't and then when I fell off I landed on my arm and broke my wrist.
It's in a cast and I'm resting at home, won't be going riding for a few weeks but I intend to start again as soon as I'm up to it. _________________ Britland as dubbed by AsA

Today I attended a friend's graduation party, which was nice.
Then I went to work, which was okay.
Later I watched Origin: Spirits of the Past. I've seen worse, but I've seen better too.
Highs:
- Terrific visuals
- Good soundtrack
So so's:
- Plot was okay but shaky in places
- Characterization generally good, but thin (especially the heroine)
Lows:
- At one point they used a "double train". This means that you have two separate railways running in parallel, you build an engine that straddles both of them, and you hook up one train on both sides. Disadvantages: you have to lay TWICE as much railroad track. Advantages: ... none? I mean, why not just lay ONE track and put TWO locomotives at the front of ONE very long train? 10/10 for style, minus 10 for good thinking.
- At one point the hero enters the villains lair from its LOWER level, and then at a dramatic moment he drops DOWN from the ceiling into the midst of the action. No establishing shots to show why/how he got above.
- The plant people are called "Zruids". Replacing the "D" in "Druid" does not make you original. Not EVEN if you use a Z.
- Hero is WAY overpowered. As in, capable of casually swatting away an explosive shell larger than his own body is hurtling towards him faster than the speed of sound. He's superman. Yeah ... no.
- Heroine lacks agency; basically spends movie doing what other people say.
Overall, I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. _________________ Keeper of The Remnant Minuon (cognomen Lucy, the Eaten One) and the Emissary Caeli |

@Britland: Oh, my! I hope you recover quickly. Rest up, heal up, and you'll be back at it in no time. (Note that my advice doesn't actually suggest you be more cautious. I'm a bad influence, I am.)
For all the rest of you, I present funnies (particularly for those who like language):

Today I am back in the forum after three weeks of walrus and orcas and bears (oh my!). Been on a boat, been in a lab, been on hikes and on camera for German TV. It's all been very exciting.
Britty: you silly goose! I hope it is not too sore and that you recover quickly. Can I sign your cast?
Mane: Oh no! I'm glad you're ok. Hope the area gets back on its feet soon. _________________ He who does not eat cheese will go mad. ~ French proverb.

Hee, Usa, that made me smile. ^_^
Welcome back Alli, sounds like you had a lot of fun!
Today and yesterday, stuff happened... mostly I'm just exhausted. Kind of fuzzy behind my eyes, and I can't work up the energy to really make progress on anything. My teachers are getting very disappointed in their comments to me on my lack of work to show for my year. And I'm disappointed in myself as well, I just... can't get my engine to turn over, you know? Blech.
Gotta go, a fellow cast member is here for some rehearsal. _________________ Self-styled Forum Grandmother, because I hand out nicknames and hugs whether you want them or not. ^_^

Alli, that sounds amazing! I'm glad you had such a good time!
Asa, you can do it! ^^
Today is my first day of summer vacation--at least until the end of the month. Ahhhh, bliss. Time to watch movies and knit Christmas presents.
Today Maurice Sendak died. ;-; _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong

Today my entire state is in an uproar about the primary elections yesterday. One of the things on the ballot was a possible amendment to the state constitution that could have some pretty far reaching ramifications--mostly due to unclear wording. It passed.
Now people are upset and angry and filing petitions and working on getting it repealed and the rest of the country is throwing rocks at us (seems like).
Another fun day in the southern USA. _________________ Keeper of Gaia and all the books on Earthsong
