Today, I am shaving my everyday goatee in favor of a Tony Stark/Iron Man goatee. Cool

Today it is Norwegian national day! Gratulerer med dagen og glad 17 Mai!

I have been in a parade which was put on Norwegian national news, we had a champagne breakfast (it's traditional today!) and my friend is arriving from Bodo for a visit in about half an hour Very Happy

Today is a good 17 Mai Smile

Today I got practically nothing done at work, because a power surge last night zapped the switch which used to provide Internet to my office. Instead I spent the day sitting at the reference desk answering questions like "Yes, we have the October 3rd 2011 issue of 'AgWeek'".

Today I got paid to sit in a chair for six hours and read Their Eyes Were Watching God. I am ok with this. They really shouldn't employ people during the week before public schools let out. No one shows up.

Today the head-hauncho-boss-man got mad at me because I closed some of the windows early. I was not informed of this until after the fact, because my walkie-talkie was turned off. Whoops.

Today it dawned on me that my surgery is on Thor's Day (Thursday). I now feel rather epic about the whole thing. After developing a Tony Stark personality over the past few weeks (mostly to annoy someone who thought my pre-Stark self had a "playboy image", bafflingly), I feel personally connected to Thor's Day.

This is me putting on my cavalier attitude.

This is me wishing you luck in the surgery.

Had a nice Shabbos in a gorgeous part of the country, with old and new friends, and now I have work work work to do. Blech.

Mmm, good luck with the thingumy. Make sure to get a lightning hammer. (Because who doesn't want a lightning hammer?)

....

I wonder whether those things are terrible for people with long hair. All that static making it go ~^_^~

Today a new front door is being fitted. It's a kinda loud thing to wake up to. >_<

Also watched Paprika. Which is a 2006 film about dreams (sort of) that's a little... odd. Odd in the sense of Inception. The latter of which it apparently served as an inspiration for.

Good luck Usa!

Today I learned that a guy I started university with went missing a month ago. He was last seen on the waterfront in Seattle WA on 24th April. They don't think they'll find him now. It's all very ... odd is all I can think at the moment. I was mostly shocked when I first found out but then I started looking at his facebook over the last few months. He just got accepted into film school in Vancouver, Canada which has been his dream for as long as I've known him. His writing portfolio got him a scholarship within 24 hours of applying, he was happy. Until the day before he went missing, when he posted an awful status about how sorry he was for what he was about to do. The story his friend tells is that he went to rescue a seal on his own and just never came back, but what the heck was he doing in Seattle? Why the sudden change in mood? It doesn't sit right with me. But there's not a lot to be done. I feel for his poor mum. She lives in Scotland (where he's from too) and she won't even have a body to bury for closure.

Bummer, Alli.

Today I have a D&D game. So I really need to muck out the apartment.

*work work work*

Also today, there's going to be a partial solar eclipse. From where I am, it'll hit its maximum coverage about 5 minutes before sunset, so it'll be kind of like getting an unusually early sunset.

Today I did the minimum on the work I needed to do, BUT I also double checked my due dates and realized I have two weeks instead of two days to get it done. So yeah. Also, babysat for my cousin which involved putting her to bed then procrastinating and again not doing work.

This is the last week of ulpan, so I do feel a bit badly that I'll be missing my second to last day. I'm mostly relieved not to have the five hour time commitment twice a week, though.

I'm sorry to hear about that, Alli, that's awful. =(

Good luck on your surgery, Usa!

Today my brother got a job! Yay! He hasn't had one for three or four years now. So woo! ^________^

Today I start summer school.

Yay - job-ness ^^;

#

Today got new keys on order for the front door. Takes a month to get new keys cut for those sort of locks apparently. Thought doubtless little of that is the actual cutting. Now I understand why they gave you a bar-code describing the things rather than just having you hand one over.

Today watching Crest of the Stars. Really reminds me of the old space strategy games.

The politics is neat too, sort of what you'd predict easily from history. Razz

Today read some of A Deepness In The Sky by Vernor Vinge. Fairly good so far. Better than Asimov... so far anyway.

Today I am researching the media's coverage of the Iraq war for my Journalism class.

Today I am resisting the urge to go scream in a closet because of said research.

Today I really want to see Maen's Tony Stark goatee!

Today, I offer sympathy and hugs for Alli and her lost friend. I wish I could offer answers instead, but sometimes those remain elusive. Perhaps that's better, though, that we don't understand why. I suppose it's enough that we understand that we miss them, you know? Treasure their memory, their life, and not get lost like they got lost.

Today I wish all the sick people (we have a few!) health. I wish all the job hopefuls success. I wish all the people I haven't kept in as good contact with patience (selfishly ^^; ), as I know I need more forgiveness than perhaps I've earned!

I don't say it often enough, I don't think. This really is my second family, Earthsong is. This is where I can come to feel safe, feel like I belong. Thank you, every last one of you. A home is not easy to find, these days. I'm beyond fortunate to have one that truly spans the globe.

Today, in about ten minutes in fact, I'll be registered and whisked away for a relatively minor spinal surgery. If all goes well, I'll be rid of my most recognized accessory - the cane - for the foreseeable future.

I'll update you guys when I'm on the mend. Shouldn't take more than a day, truly. ^_^ They expect most people to go home the same day. Catch y'all on the flip side!

(the iPhone corrects ya'll to y'all. Is Apple more southern than me? O_o)

Well, it's 'you all', and an apostrophe marks missing letters... and 'all' is still complete... so I think Apple is more correct in this case.

Good luck on the surgery, and I hope you heal quickly and completely!
