It's a good thing though, eh? Glad to know that everything seems on an upswing.

*scowls* Last night I lost my script. The day after I received it. Along with my MA handbook, for the loss of which we were threatened with dire consequences. Went back to all the places I walked through this morning, and no one had it. In a bad mood about it, but there's nothing I can do...

Congrats Tenshi, ^_^

Good luck Tin! ^_^

Today I .... -shrug- -wobble- was fairly out of it last night. Went for a run - 2.4km ~11 mins - trying to get back into some semblance of fitness. Then went off to do martial arts for an hour and a half or so. Blasted out of my mind on sweet sweet sugar @_@

Suuugggggaaaaaaarrrrrrrr

Today ---- have you ever thought company pensions were a really odd thing? The odds of staying with the same company for life these days seem low - and if you move, what happens to the pension?

Then again, there's also the trust issue - what are the chances that you're honestly going to get the pension when you retire? Remembering a lot of pension funds collapsed a few years back....

Usa: Razz of course I know what it does, but it's less an intellectual decision and more anything to make me feel better, ya know?
Also, I am glad you're on the way Smile

Good luck Tin!

Today I'm on my way out to have lunch with my friends, so better food starts here Razz

Me too - my mom assured me last night that it is, in fact, a good use of money to go out to eat twice a week if that's the only way to guarantee better meals. Especially when one order will serve two meals.

EDIT: Went back to the cafe a little bit ago to buy a late lunch, and decided to look behind the counter again, just in case... and the papers were there! Found my script and my handbook! I feel so much better. Maybe I'll be able to get something done now.

Alli, a while ago my sister collapsed. The doctor determined that she hadn't been eating properly. She works long hours, often on her feet, has a long drive to and from work every day (she lives in Edinburgh and works in Glasgow) and she just wasn't eating enough or having enough variety in her diet (dinner every night was beans on toast). And she lives alone so there was no-one to nag her to eat properly.

If you need someone to nag you to eat properly, I'm right here.

Today I am enjoying being unemployed, for now. I'm sure I'll get bored.

Thanks for the offer Britty, I've just gone and bought a load of 'real' food. I'm usually pretty good with my diet, but I let it slide recently. Silly moo that I am Razz

Food nagger, n.: Someone who nags your food for you before you eat it. "Oh come on, Twinkie! You call yourself FATTENING? I saw some Ding Dongs over there packing TWICE the calories! Okay, you can eat it now ..."

Today I just finished my phone interview, and it went pretty well. Thanks for the good wishes, everybody! Now, time to go back to work at the library ...

Today I saw this on my Facebook wall, and decided I had to share it with the group (Also, mostly, with Nem): http://barelyconcealednuance.tumblr.com/post/20115150777/kohenari-if-you-dont-talk-to-your-kids-about

"I found copies of Kant in your room. I'm concerned." Heh heh heh.

@Diet: Cutting out fats and cholesterol with no real "weaning" period has been a difficult, but overall beneficial, endeavor. While eating poorly may make you feel good in the short term (Doritos, for instance? Delicious. Horrible for you, but delicious), the actual end result is that you don't feel as well for the long term. Whereas if you eat healthily in the short term, you'll feel hungry, frustrated, and tired. In the long term, I'm assured, you'll feel much better. So far all I've noticed is that my sense of taste has improved dramatically. I suppose that's something! Well, to be fair, I've also lost a belt loop in size. I'm probably tired because I'm only getting a few hours of sleep each night, not because of the diet. I guess it's all good things.. >>

Anyhow.

@Britland: Unemployed can be greatly enjoyable for a while! Catch up on sleep, catch up on webcomics, do some writing, all that. Sleeeeep. @__@ (Also, I hope your sister is okay!)

@Tinman: I'm glad your interview went well. I hope that you get the job, so long as you want it. ^_^

@Asa: It's always the last place you look, no? Ignoring the ironic truth to that statement, of course. I'm glad you found it, though. Glad you have a part you're looking forward to!

Today, I took my father to the hospital for some routine check-up work. His condition is fluctuating, but generally improving. He seems to have plateaud(sp) at the moment, though, which is a bit frustrating. Going back tomorrow to see some more folks at another hospital. I think we're going to try and get him up and active a bit more often, but right now we're struggling with his blood pressure. It's either 80/50 or 140/90. He either feels like passing out, or like he's going to have a heart attack... He's not the only one very frustrated by it, but we're keeping a brave face.

Today I got my appointment with the specialist. April 20! Woo.. sooner the better, I think.

Today I deleted a long bit of whinging (I love that word, since we're on the topic of eclectic vocabulary). First heard it in the LOTR documentaries, and now I always think of Orlando Bloom saying, with a shocked expression, "Whinging? They said I was..." Heh heh heh.

I hope everyone is well. You're all in my thoughts! *forum-wide hugs*

Today my grandmother passed away, about 20 minutes after I finished my phone interview. It was as peaceful as could be arranged.

She was born in 1914. Her earliest memory was eating cake under a table while the adults celebrated the declaration of Armistice at the end of World War I. During the Depression she worked as a cook for an alabaster factory, and got at least some of her pay in kind -- I have alabaster bookends on my shelves that came from those days. She raised five children, and saw all of them through college -- in large part by taking a secretarial job at a university for the tuition reimbursement. She earned her own BA in her fifties. In her lifetime we went from horse-and-buggy to space travel, and telegraphs to video conferencing. Her wisdom will be missed. She's survived by four of her children, 10 grandchildren (including me), and 2 great-grandchildren.

We will not be holding the memorial service immediately. She wanted her ashes scattered across the Continental Divide in the mountains, where we scattered her husband's ashes; and since that part of the mountains is quite high (over 12,000 feet above sea level), it's all still snow bound.

Sooo ... today was decidedly mixed.

She sounds like an incredible person who led an incredible life. Anything else I could say sounds hollow, so I'll just send some *internet-hugs*.

Aww, Tin. I'm sorry you could be there. She sounds like she lived in an incredibly period of history though.

*Hugs*

@Tenshi: >_< Yeah, I mean - Kant. They could at least read something useful, like Rawls. =p

Admittedly Rawls is an awful writer. But there are occasional nuggets of brilliance, in the sea of trite platitudes and the wandering narrative structure.

#

Today I started to notice how, when you start looking at how people interact, you can generalise/simplify very quickly.

So what'd you have as your simplification for people?

In general terms, I think, some people are quiet and some people are loud. Some people want to talk about people and some people want to talk about things.

So something like:

Code:
      People

Quiet            Outgoing

      Situation

Which I suppose you'd have to vary according to how comfortable the person felt in a certain situation. Someone who's passionate about a certain subject might be much more outgoing in that area than they would if they were talking about something they'd no interest in.

I suppose there's also the, 'Doesn't want to talk,' kind. Not sure where they'd fit in. Maybe just the extreme end of the quiet group?

And then what other character traits correlate? Is the loud person interested in the big picture of simply obnoxious? Is the quiet person detail oriented or simply apathetic to everything? =p

It's all very well to cut people down into categories but then you've got to actually do something with them.

Outgoing people I suppose you could identify by relatively loud/projected voice, quick engagement after eye-contact... large gestures? Making use of the personal space around them?

I wonder if you just mirror people's behaviour back at them whether you get a feedback loop all the time. You do with anger....

Thanks for the condolences, all. Grandmother's death doesn't really seem real to me yet. I mean, Denver is a thousand miles away. I don't think it'll really hit till the next time I go back to Denver and she's not there.

Today I finished "Blood Tea and Red String", which has got to be the second weirdest film I've ever seen.

My condolences on the passing of your grandmother. It took several weeks to a month for it to hit when my grandmother passed.

Spent Shabbat with a family from back home in the States. They have four kids, six to eleven. The younger two are just adorable. The six-year old is just the cutest thing - He's the second child I met who uses affection to get the attention of adults around him, instead of naughty behavior. Kisses and hugs and cuddles whenever I want! ^_____^ It was heavenly. He also threw a fit when I had to leave last night, and kept reminding me that I was invited to his birthday party.

I also got two tentative job offers. So all in all, a really successful Shabbos.
