Several websites, including Google, have informed me that my computer is infected with a virus or malware by making me complete a captcha. My virus scanner tells me my computer is healthy. How do I resolve this issue?

Well, don't download and run any anti-virus removal kits they recommend. Wink

I'd be inclined, if the google search page is say you have a virus, to assume that your computer is compromised - it seems more likely than google's computers being compromised. It may not be more likely than the infrastructure inbetween being non-compromised, I suppose, but I don't know how likely that is so that doesn't really mean much. If it were me - I'd probably grab the files I wanted, format my computer, overwrite the HD with junk data to make sure that whatever was on there was good and dead, and reinstall windows/whatever.

Baring that I'd download a few different anti-virus scanners and run them.

If it says you have a specific virus, what virus does it say that you have?

No, they're just saying, "We're getting suspicious activity and requests from your computer, which generally indicates a problem. Might we suggest you do something about it? In the meantime, prove you're human and we'll let you through."

I downloaded and ran Spybot 2, which must have cleared up the problem - Google Scholar isn't catching me at the door anymore.
